sww

So what if I am sick and tired of all the whining on facebook lately.

So what if I am also getting pretty tired of people who complain of others not being accepting of their beliefs, yes are not that accepting of those who don't agree with what they have to say.

So what if I am taking on some extra babysitting jobs to cover the enormous water bill our family has wracked up this season.

So what if I am thinking of scratching my original idea of getting a big pool for next year and just buying a little thing until the babies are big enough to swim without so much help.

So what if I hate admitting that I am ready for school to start.  I think the kids are ready too.

So what if moved the furniture in our living room to cover the stains on the carpet.

So what if I am so excited to go to Omaha Zoo this weekend for Luke and Max's birthday!  Can you believe those little turkeys are going to be 2?!?!

Did you know that the word "TURKEY" does not end in "IES" when you make it plural?

Adventureland 2013

We have been busy packing our summer schedule full of fun and memories.  I haven't blogged about much of them, but as the summer is starting to wind down a bit I am finding more time to get them posted.

Last time we visited Adventureland the babies were literally 2 weeks old.  This is what that looked like..... Sam, my sister who we jokingly call Scott's sister wife came with us and her and Scott took the big boys on all the rides.  I couldn't ride because of having 2 babies cut out of my body 14 days prior, so I just walked along and nursed and pumped and tended to our newborns.  I did try to ride the hot air balloons on the way out of the park just to make a memory with the boys, and ended up puking all the way out of the park. No bueno.

This year was completely different, well kinda.  Scott and Sam took the boys to the big A early when they opened. They rode the rides and I stayed home with Luke and Max.  After they laid down, I packed them up and hauled them up to meet the rest of our family.

After we got up there, we rode a few "baby friendly" rides and headed to the water park.  A good time was had by all..

The airplanes were the last ride we rode on... The everyone was tired from a full day of fun, but we chose to ride one more ride.  While we were loading everyone onto the planes, Luke bit me...so someday when he looks back and is sad because he didn't get to ride the last ride of Adventureland 2013, I have photographic evidence of why.

We ended the day with dinner at Outback and a very quiet ride home.

SWW

So what if I heard the boys giggling about "mommy's mad face" as I walked away from them today.

So what if I had to stop in the bathroom and shut the door to keep them from hearing me laughing.

So what if the following conversation happened yesterday:
"Hey guys we are going to Adventureland tomorrow!"
"We are? Really?  Again! Wow!"
"No, but you heard me say that didn't you?"
"yea..."
"then you could hear me say to hang up your stinkin' swim trunks, so why are they laying on the floor!?!?!"

So what if I have started a secret blog that I am almost ready to share with you all.

So what if I am so excited to start classes this fall.

So what if I would thing riding RAGBRI sounds awesome, but I would have a lot of training to do... top of that list, learning to ride a bike.... I might be better suited on the breakfast committee.

So what if I think that having newborn twins was a piece of cake in comparison to having two year old twins.  This age may be the death of me.

So what if getting our family pictures done this summer was a pain in the neck.  I thought I got a great deal, but due to rain, and more rain, and then heat, and then lots of heat, and 468 ball games this summer, we couldn't get them rescheduled, so I tried a new gal and had good luck.

So what if the reason my kids are smiling in said family pictures, is because my saint of a sister was making Jay Jay do the hokey pokey behind the photographer.

So what if its going to be Thursday before I ever get this posted.

Jake & Holly's link up: Finish the sentence

I follow this blog on my blog list but I don't read it very often.  But my friend Nicole did this link up and I thought it was fun so I did it too!
button

If I had one extra hour in the day... Sleep. Most definitely sleep.  Maybe blog if I am feeling like it, but I am pretty sure I wouldn't spend such a sweet blessing of an hour cleaning.

I wish my name... I actually like my name, so I can deal.  But if I did have to name a child at this point I would probably pick Henry.  I have a giant list of girl names but there isn't a reason to entertain those since every baby that comes out of my uterus has a penis.
I think anything chevron is... cooler than I am.  I think people go completely nutso with it and I have to admit I would love a little chevron wall in our bathroom but I don't know if I would ever be brave enough to pull the trigger.

My last nightmare... was about someone dying. It was terrible and haunted me for days.

Sometimes... I wonder why we ever got a dog, but most times, I am crazy about the pooch.

My last meal on earth would be... Round Steak with gravy, and the Chimichangas from Roja in Omaha.  Complete with a big old margarita on the rocks, and strawberry cake from my favorite baker, and a piece of my sister's wedding cake... (I like cake)

I would much rather... Be on a beach somewhere sipping drinks with best friends.

-Mayonnaise... is good as long as I don't think about what it looks like or smells like.

10 years ago, I didn't think... I was worth anything. That decisions I made wouldn't effect me in the long run,  I was convinced I would never find a husband, be the last one of my friends to get married and might never be able to be a mom.  Thank GOD that HIS timing was so much better then mine!

Selfishly... I want to run away on a regular basis.

My favorite show on TV right now... Scandal. It isn't on tv right now, but I love it.  Come to think about it, we really aren't watching much on tv these days.

And, George Zimmerman... I haven't paid enough attention to make an educated decision. But what I know is, no matter how thin you make a pancake, there are always two sides, and that this world needs to stop, think and love like Jesus.

How I weaned my 2 almost 2 year olds.

First of all I need to give some credit where credit is due.. I wouldn't be here without a few special people.  1st of all without my husband who not only contributed 1/2 of his DNA (twice) to make these 2 special people, but from day one has walked beside me and told me I could do it.  2nd, my best friend Hollie, who reminded me that "Anything after 15 months of nursing is most definitely considered weird," and kept me laughing at each failed attempt to wean telling me it was "probably going to be okay if he was still getting a nip before noon recess."  She's funny, I need her.  Also my mom & sister who have helped my balance a baby while nursing in the car, and didn't even blink twice about me pumping and feeding a baby over dinner at Olive Garden.  Last but certainly not least, I wouldn't be here without my lactation consultant Christine.  I have written about her before, but she was the key to my breastfeeding success.  When I look back, I think it had less to do with the actual breastfeeding and much more to do with the support she gave me.  She was always encouraging me that I was doing a great job- my mom had to say stuff like that, but not Christine.  She could have told me to get a grip and suck it up, but she didn't.  Her quiet, gentile encouragement kept me going. For that I am forever grateful.

So I am finally done.  At 23 months and 13 days, Luke and Max are finally weaned.  I thought this day may never happen and I was crossing my fingers, toes, and practically my boobs, that they would be done before they turned two.  I had tried weaning at 15 months, and 18 months, and 20 months and every month after, and set my summer goal to be completely finished by their second birthday.

I must say it was a pretty long weaning process, I tried cold turkey and I ended up so engorged that I couldn't move, let alone let anyone get close enough to me to even breathe on me. So I went back to nursing.  I consulted with a few friends of mine who I knew had some experience in extended breastfeeding and asked for their advice.  What I learned was that they took, what I like to call, the easy way out.  Instead of weaning a not-very verbal 2 year old- complete with tantrums and angry biting, they just let them win and continued to nurse until they were 4 or older.  No dice. I can tell you how to wean a four year old, you say "no, here is a ham sandwich!" They got to skip right over the screaming toddler (they just had one, I have 2) at the bottom of their legs crying for some nourishment, begging for some nonnie, crying all.day.long.  I couldn't be that mom, my sanity was teetering as it was, nursing and I needed to part ways.

In the middle of May I started cutting back day time feedings.  They were only nursing mornings and night time, that took the rest of May and most of June. The hardest part was not letting them nurse out of habit.  So many times Luke would climb into my lap and assume the position and I would, without thinking about it, pull it out for him to nurse.

At the end of June I went out of town for the weekend and decided that since I wasn't nursing that much anyway I could try cold turkey again.  Wrong.  Again I was engorged and in pain.  So I let them nurse.  With only 2 feedings left I tried to decide which one to cut first.  I wanted to kick the AM feed because I knew that one would be the hardest, and I wanted it done first.  But cutting it made for an entire day of crying babies at my feet and, well, ain't nobody got time for that!  I started setting the timer for 5 minutes in the morning.  They could nurse those 5 minutes and then it was "all gone" and they had to get their milk cups.. We then cut the night feeding so they were nursing just 5 minutes every morning.  After a few days we switched to a commercial break, or about 2-3 minutes, then after a few more days we went to 2 minutes a day.  Soon they just lost interest.  I didn't get engorged weaning like this because my body really couldn't keep a supply just nursing 5 minutes a day.

I am still producing milk, but not much.  The boys still climb up on my lap and "assume the position" but instead we snuggle and just talk about "the good old days" and how now that they are almost 2 *gasp* they don't need any more "nonnie." They haven't nursed in an entire week. I think we are finally done.

I don't think I am sad.  They were ready, they just needed a little push out of the nest, I just needed a way to do that was best for all parties involved.  Like all things parenting related, you just have to do what is best for the entire family. I have said it over and over that breastfeeding isn't for everyone, and it most definitely isn't best for the baby if you are feeling like locking yourself up in a closet.  And if you do try nursing, and nurse for a week, a month, 6 months, 18months, 48 months it is an accomplishment and you should be proud.  You shouldn't feel embarrassed that you "only made it a month" because, well you made it a month! Way to go!  I didn't write this post to brag about how long I nursed, I wrote it because some day, some where there is going to be a mom who is trying to figure out how to wean her nearly two year olds and would like to do it with the least amount of conflict as possible.  THAT is who I wrote this for!

So What Wednesday!

So what if I went to bed at 6pm yesterday and slept until 6:30 this morning.

So what if I could have kept sleeping.

So what if I am registering myself for some collage classes.  It is something I have always talked about doing, and it occurred to me that the babies are going to go to preschool next year, and I will be looking for employment/something to do.

So what if I still don't know what I want to "be when I grow up." I am all over the map, thinking about education (so I can sub, I don't ever want to teach) mortuary science (I think it would be cool to work in a funeral home, and help plan funerals) journalism, and so many others!

So what if days when its too hot to go outside make me feel like a terrible mom.  Something about hell-degree temperatures make me stabby and bring out the worst in my offspring.

So what if there were too many legs in our house today when I let JayJay come in the house to escape the gross hotness that is outside.

So what if even though it was hot outside, we had chili and baked potatoes tonight for supper.

So what if I am going to try to make jelly this weekend.

So what if I am completely, 100% finished breastfeeding.  The boys nursed 23months and 13 days.  It is probably my biggest accomplishment to date.

So what if the biggest challenge of chasing after 2 almost 2 year olds is my bladder.  I mean, they used it as a trampoline for 35 weeks and 4 days, and then they have the nerve to run in two different directions in a parking lot. Its like they know there is no way their mama can grab one and chase after the other without peeing her pants.

So what if we have spent more money on water in the last 3 months then I care to admit.  Between filling our pool the first time, and then filling it again when the boys drained nearly 1/2 of the water(pool is 10,000 gallons) over the sides of the pool, forgetting to shut the water off when filling JayJay's kiddy pool before leaving at 7:30am and not remembering until 2:30pm on the way home from Des Moines.  And keeping the garden watered so we don't lose our crop this year.  Yea, this is going to be a pricey summer.

So what if I have a love hate relationship with school supplies, I love the look, the smell, the feel, and I love packing them into a backpack. But I hate that it means that summer is almost over and soon the craziness of school starts.  I keep trying to remember where our summer has gone and what we have accomplished... I got nothing.
So what if I refuse to say we have done nothing this summer!  We did VBS (two of them) loads of baseball practices and games (4 nights a week, every week) We went to movies (A movie) and went to story time with Dan Wordell, and to the Clive pool.  We have had birthday parties, and became Costco members, we have swam, and played, and laughed a lot.

So what if I am laying here writing this list instead of sleeping.  I told myself I would just type this real quick and that was 53 minutes ago.  Night!

Hey Hey its my birthday!

Normally, this Wednesday would be full of So What Wednesday awesomeness.  Don't fret my pets, I have a SWW post coming for today also.  But this one is about my birthday!

I have one more year until a big milestone birthday. What did I want this year, nothing.  I have everything I need.  Except a big pot, so I guess there is something I do want.  A great big blue pot to plant my Mother In Law's tounge. (It's a plant, not her actual tounge.)

But next year?  Oh boy, do I have a list. Just 5 little things I don't think would be too hard...

#1.)  I would like 2 black squirrels.  A male and a female.  I like them, and I want them.  PS: Do you know that we have NO squirrels at 6smeadacres?  I gotta have them!  There could be some extra credit if I had some video footage of their capture.  The mere thought, makes me giggle.

#2.) Within the next 365 days, I would like Mr. Smead to do 30 sweet and over the top romantic things for me.  He is the first to tell you that that area is not his expertise, and he isn't all that great at it.  But he can be, he will have to dig down deep and sweep me off my feet!

#3.) I would like one of those 30 things to be proposing to me again. His first proposal lacked...ahem, luster/romance/excitement/hearts/flowers/the words "will you marry me?" lol.
#4.)  I never got to go to prom with Scott, part of that may be because we didn't meet until I was out of high school, another reason may be because Scott graduated when I am 6th grade.  Anyway, I would love to do prom again with all my best friends, and of course the man who I am hell over heals in love with.  I don't need tuxs, just pretty dresses, some great music, maybe a fire.... Did I mention I want to do it in my back yard?  And have I told you that you are all invited???

#5.)  I am hoping that, since next year we will have been together for 10 years, I would love to go to Vegas to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary!  I would love to go with a bunch of friends and just spend a few days, laying by the pool and people watching!

See?  Its not to much to ask for is it??

Happy #8 to #1!

This big guy turned 8 years old today!  It is his golden birthday as he is 8 on the 8th.  We celebrated for 2 days, on Sunday he opened his presents because we had a ball game on Monday night.  He got a snorkel, a carrying case for his DS, some shirts and underwear, and tickets to Adventureland. We had cupcakes that night to celebrate:

On his actual birthday, he spent the day swimming and playing with Gav.  Gavin had a ball game that night so after that we met JustGrandma and Pa for frozen yogurt! Yum!

Karter, here are a few things I know about you today:

You are so kind to people, with the exception of Gavin, you really try to think about other people's feelings.  I am so thankful for this, and hope you never grow out of it.

You are a great big brother.  Your baby brothers love you so much and you are always so helpful to them.  You don't even complain about it to much.

You love school.  You enjoy going, and learning. You love books and reading, as well as math, science and social studies.  You always come home with "fascinating facts."

You also love sports. Your favorites are NASCAR and baseball.  You have the best little team of baseball and I am so thankful for that.  Not only are you learning a lot about the game, but you are learning so much about sportsmanship.  I smile every time I watch because the level of maturity for you boys to be cheering each other on is incomparable. As far as racing goes, you know the drivers better then your dad, and will sit for hours and watch the race.

You love Jesus. You have recently been asking us about getting baptized and that makes my heart smile. That is another thing I hope you always remember.

You wear size 10 pants, size M/L shirts, and a size 5.5 shoe.  I will get you weighed and measured next week and report back!

You love to laugh and your laughter makes me laugh out loud.

SWW!

So what if I had a really great day with my kids yesterday.  It helped, that I had help from a sitter to help me take them to the Clive Library for Dan Wordell story time. Luke and Max were both 95% entertained and did great... 95%.

So what if they only got 95% because as we were walking out, Luke threw a giant fit and was banging his head on the stroller tray all the way out to the car.  Fancy.

So what if we then went to the Clive aquatics center and had a great time.  It wasn't too crowded and the boys had a ball.  I did decide that going to the pool is a 3 adults to 4 children ratio. Luke would have liked to stay playing in the water fountains, while Max was much more interested in trying to drown wading in chest deep water.

So what if we went during nap time, because I thought they would sleep the whole way home, plus some, and they barely slept all the way home. :(

So what if I really should have listened to my mom voice when I thought I should have just dropped Karter off at ball last night instead of dragging us all there?

So what if since I didn't listen to my little voice, and did in fact drag all of us to the ball field, we ended up leaving with 3 crying kids, (not a typo, Gav was pitching a fit too.)

So what if I should be cleaning, cooking and weeding for the pre-Fourth of July party tonight.  But I would rather sit here and blog, and maybe take a nap!

So what if I have no idea what to get Karter for his birthday on Monday. Even he is having a hard time coming up with a list.

So what if I am very excited for the boys' party next week.

So what if next weeks SWW lands on my birthday!

So what if I had the best, most relaxing visit to Omaha last weekend.  Coming back I feel like a better mom, a better wife and a better person...until of course WATERgate 2013. lol!
